The store that has just about everything – Wal-Mart – now offers a new rewards MasterCard – for Canadians. The rewards that the card gives are sure to provide even greater savings for some. This could make shopping at the giant superstore with the Wal-Mart rewards MasterCard even more interesting.
The new Wal-Mart credit card is being offered by the Wal-Mart Canada Bank. In order to simplify how much the points are worth, the rewards are earned in dollar equivalents. This makes it very easy to understand when there are enough rewards to be able to redeem them for merchandise. Card members earn 1.25 percent of their purchases made at any Wal-Mart Canada stores, and then they also earn another 1 percent of purchases made wherever MasterCard is accepted.
The rewards can be easily redeemed instantly at any Wal-Mart cash register in Canada on future purchases. They must be used in a minimum of five-dollar increments, and they can be used on hundreds of thousands of products. Rewards can only be redeemed at Wal-Mart stores in Canada.
Wal-Mart of Canada has a special incentive on the card that will provide new cardholders with extra reward value. They will give an extra $15 value in rewards for those who make two purchases within the first 30 days after receiving the credit card – one in Wal-Mart Canada, and one in a place where MasterCard is accepted. Another $10 reward will be given if they should also decide to go paperless.
Trudy Fahie, who is the President and CEO of Wal-Mart Canada, said “Customers are always asking Wal-Mart for more ways to help them save money and stretch their budgets further. The Wal-Mart Rewards MasterCard was developed with our customers in mind and the Wal-Mart Rewards program focuses on giving them value when they spend on and need life’s everyday things.”
In addition to the Rewards that can be earned, Wal-Mart also makes it simple to use the card in some places. Their PayPass Tap-&-Go system allows the Wal-Mart Rewards MasterCard to be used to make quick purchases of things like gas, fast food, or movie tickets, simply by tapping the card on special PayPass terminals. Card users simply need to tap it on the terminal, listen for the beep, and the transaction is complete.
In order to provide added security to the card, it uses secure chip technology. This chip helps protect the card against identity theft, fraud and from counterfeiting of the card. Although assigned a PIN when you get the card, you will be asked to change it once you receive it, and then only you will know what your PIN is. The PIN is not needed for online purchases, and not all stores use the new system.
Wal-Mart customers in Canada can easily apply for the new Wal-Mart Rewards Credit Cards at any Wal-Mart store. Simply go to either a cash register in the store or go to a special kiosk that promotes the new cards. Approval can be obtained almost instantly, if qualified. Free supplementary cards can be obtained which will help increase the amount of reward points on the credit cards.
The Wal-Mart Canada Bank is currently promoting a charity to help children. For every in-store application it receives, it will donate one dollar toward the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN), between June 15 and July 15, 2010. Both the Bank and Wal-Mart Canada are committed to raising funds for this organization, which seeks to improve the lives of children. Since 1994, the store has raised more than $50 million for this organization.
