Citi Simplicity® Card Review
by Cecil Dellison

There was a time in the past when things were rather simple. This is the idea behind the Citi Simplicity® Card, and it pretty much does what its title suggests – keeps it simple – and nice. The card has some nice features to it, and makes it more than meets the eye at first glance. The Citi Simplicity® Card is one that is worth having in your wallet or purse.

What Are Some of the Best Features of the Citi Simplicity® Card?

There are no penalties for late payments. Can you believe it – a credit card that does not charge late fees? Neither will they raise your interest rate on the credit card if you go over your credit limit. In fact, you could even miss a payment, too, and not have to pay any fees, either. There is, however, a penalty of $35 for any returned payments.

Citi offers a program called Extra Cash to its cardholders. This program lets you use ten percent of your purchases on your Citi Simplicity® Card and use them to buy from their Website things like travel, merchandise, gift cards, and more. There is no extra fee for this service. You can learn how much Extra Cash is available to you from your online account.

Zero interest on the Introductory Offer. For any purchases that you put on the Citi Simplicity® Card, you will not need to worry about paying any interest. This interest-free period extends up to 15 months once you apply for the credit card, and only for purchases made within the first four months. After that, the interest rate on the card is 15.99 percent, but which is subject to change according to market conditions.

Zero interest on balance transfers. Any balance transfers that you make to the new Citi Simplicity® Card also receive a zero percent interest. You get the same interest free period of 15 months – if they are performed within the first four months of owning the credit card. There is a cost of either $5 or four percent of the amount transferred – whichever is greater. The interest rate will also be 15.99 percent, which may change.

What Other Features Does the Citi Simplicity® Card Have?

Buying items from a store is easy with their PayPass system. This allows you to simply tap your PayPass payment tag on a special reader (if present) and you will not even need to use your signature on purchases under $25.

Choose your payment terms. When you first apply, you have the opportunity to decide what time of the month your payment will be due. You can choose from the beginning, the middle, or at the end of the month.

What Kind of Security and Protections Does the Card Offer?

Card owners are protected in several ways. One thing that the Simplicity® Card offers is to help protect you against fraudulent use by putting your picture on the front of your credit card. It also puts your signature on the front, too. When you want to make an online purchase, Citi can assign you a one-time virtual credit card number so that it is impossible to actually steal your real credit card number from online purchases.

Protection against problems with travel trips. When you make a trip that becomes either cancelled or interrupted, you can be refunded up to $1,500 – which should help you feel more comfortable about it. Your card also offers coverage for lost luggage, auto rentals, and provides you with travel and emergency assistance if it should be needed.
